Math Doctors: Competing against themselves, our students become “Doctors: fixing their patients' math problems as quickly as possible. This innovative and individually tailored approach has improved Manchester Elementary's 3rd grade math scores 10% in each of the last two years. Emphasizes Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. Ms. Theresa Cherry, Principal at Pgh Manchester PreK-8 wrote in a letter of support ““Mr. Sapp began implementing Math Doctors two days a week in the 2011-12 school years. The first year did not yield the growth in test scores as hoped. Realizing that two days a week was not a sufficient “dose”, Mr. Sapp committed himself to the classroom four days a week the following school year. The students flourished in the Math Doctors program with excellent results on the PSSA. The advanced students grew from 13% to 37%. This past school year Mr. Sapp once again dedicated himself to the third grade students four days a week with even more astounding results. There were no students below basic in math for a second year but what is truly amazing is that 80% of the students were advanced on the PSSA. The classroom teacher and I both credit Mr. Sapp and his Math Doctors program for these marvelous results in the 2013-14 school years.” (Cherry, 2014)

The Manchester Growing Together Garden has been going strong for 3 years now thanks to the support of GTECH and through the City of Pittsburgh Green Up program. However, there is still more assistance needed for the garden. The garden would like to continue hosting the Manchester neighborhood’s Light Up Night and could use some assistance purchasing the supplies for that event!
